DRA Ball 2015: A Midsummer Night's Dream

Yesterday, I attended my first St Andrews ball! It was hosted by the David Russell Apartments (the residence hall even further out from town than mine, where my friend Emily lives) and the theme was A Midsummer Night's Dream.

Getting ready for the ball was actually quite fun even though I was by myself. I listened to Taylor Swift, Beyonce, and Justin Timberlake music, curled my hair with my new curling iron, and did my makeup remarkably well!

After I got ready, I went to Emily's place around 10pm to hang out until it was time to get the 11pm bus. A huge thanks to her for taking a photo of me in my dress!

The ball was held at Kinkell Byre, a beautiful venue that was decorated spectacularly. It was incredibly crazy and chaotic inside; there were so many people! I definitely enjoyed the free ice cream from Janetta's (a St Andrews classic!), huge dance floor, and beautiful dresses. I was also quite excited to see lots of boys wearing kilts! #onlyintheuk

My favorite: mint-chocolate-chip

The dance floor was crazy, thanks to the DJ

I had a great time dancing with some of my JSA friends and getting to see Lucy as well!

I had such a fantastic time and I'm so glad that I went. One thing that I didn't expect is that it made me more homesick than ever: I couldn't help but think about how much more fun it would be if I had my Elon girls or my friends from Cary with me. (Especially when the DJ put on "Gold Digger" and I missed Stefanie's rapping.) Thank goodness for friends like Lucy to make me feel less homesick!

Going to a ball is such a uniquely St Andrews experience that it made me remember why I came over here in the first place. I can't wait for the next one! xx
